Cubicle Comfort
For this project I wanted transform this boring standard grey office cubicle a more pleasant and productive office oasis.
I think it’s safe to say that there isn’t a person alive who loves the look a the boring grey office cubicle. A lot of people will opt to add photos of loved ones and reminders from home, but that can often lead to a space that cluttered and distracting. (And honestly, I don't have many cute family photos to share.)
So for this for this project I wanted to create a pleasant work space that was relaxing but still encouraged productivity.
One of the biggest challenges to updating this space was the boring grey wall color. Unlike a home or office, I couldn't reach for the paint can for this project but that didn't mean I couldn't change the wall color.
My solution came in the form of a lovely cotton blend fabric in a pretty lilac color. I found a coordinating chiffon with a pretty floral pattern that would act as an 'accent wall' below the cabinets.
A few other bloggers suggested using a heavier upholstery fabric if you intend to pin a lot of things to the walls, but I knew I wouldn't be hanging too many things so I was ok with the lighter cotton blend. For the 3 walls of this cubicle I needed about 5 1/2 yards of fabric.
I used sewing pins to secure the fabric to the walls, folding over the edges as I worked. For areas where there were fixed cabinetry I folded or trimmed the fabric to work around those pieces.
In hindsight I would strongly recommend ironing your fabric prior to hanging it up, to ensure that your new wall covering is smooth and wrinkle free. As you can see below, I did not and ironing it while on the walls was a bit more of a challenge than I expected.
From there the finishing touches went pretty quickly. I added some white ribbon around the edges, to give the walls a nice clean finish.
I hung up a few prints, and added some fashionable file folders. The wire folder rack, a purse hook, and the frames were all spray painted in rose gold shade to match. I used a third frame with a white sheet of paper to create a dry erase message board, for when I'm away from my desk.
Updating the desktop image as well as the theme on my PC helped keep the color pallet consistent.
I added a calendar, some inexpensive white pails for pens and other supplies, and finally some silk flowers in a white vase to complete this cozy cubicle makeover!
